With the year drawing to a close and the holidays about to begin, ESA has a festive surprise for travellers at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam.

As ESA wraps up another year of amazing space activities and achievements, we are giving travellers setting off to start the holiday season the chance to unwrap a little gift from us. Thanks to a collaboration between the European Space Agency and Schiphol airport, passengers passing through Amsterdam’s busy air terminal will get the chance to pause, catch their breath, and contemplate some of the spectacular wonders of space alongside fun festive messages.

ESA wishes travellers everywhere a safe journey and happy holidays.

Digital screens throughout the airport will display some of the stunning space imagery that the European Space Agency is famous for, including incredible views of planets, stars, stellar nurseries and distant  galaxies. These colourful ‘Christmas cards’ are a bit of festive fun, but also a reminder that ESA is always there behind the scenes, making space work for the benefit of Europe, its citizens and humankind everywhere.

ESA’s long-standing cooperation with Schiphol airport goes back to 2014 and continues to provide a way to reach some of the millions of passengers passing through this busy international travel hub. Our digital posters catch their eye and help to spread awareness of the European Space Agency and its activities, as well as generally sparking an interest in space across all ages.

Anna Jacobs of ESA’s Branding and Partnerships office commented: “We are very happy to share in collaboration with Schiphol airport our festive good wishes through some sparkling and inspiring space images.”
