Graduate Communication Internship at the European Astronaut Centre

The Communications Team of the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) is looking for a highly motivated, professional and skilled individual for a 6 month graduate internship. EAC is homebase of Europe’s astronauts and prepares all space explorers for flights to the International Space Station.

Our expert teams perform medical and psychological tests with the astronauts and prepare them for scientific work on board ESA’s Columbus laboratory. To work in our exciting and fast-paced international communications environment, the applicant should have an advanced knowledge (graduate level) in at least two of the below areas:

  • Communications/Public relations/Media
  • Journalism/languages (linguistics)

 

He/she should have a proven ability to draft news texts for external publication and have an expertise in the field on Online and Social Media. The person should also be able to carry out analysis of a given situation in order to draft summaries for the preparation of PR events and media activities.

The position

The intern will report to the EAC Communication Officer and support the team at the European Astronaut Centre ESA/EAC, located in Cologne (Germany) by:

  • supporting the PROXIMA mission of French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet
  • supporting astronaut appearances during PR events and public visits
  • supporting social media activities for the European Astronaut Centre and the European Astronaut Corps
  • co-writing or translating information to be added to the ESA web www.esa.int
  • engaging in social media channels and classical media relations

 

Excellent English and French are a prerequisite - knowledge of German would be another strong advantage. This will a be non-salaried training opportunity. ESA will, however, cover certain out-of-pocket expenses. The internship position is open as of August 2016.
