What interests you about working in a space-related career?
Space exploration is an appealing topic, to which I have been attracted since I was a child. As a mathematician, I have always been interested in scientific applications. When I graduated, I was lucky to be able to work with the Technical University of Catalunya, Barcelona, in the Dynamical Systems & Celestial Mechanics research group, and to get my PhD degree there.
It is fantastic to be able to develop my professional career in an area that is highly motivating - it is as enjoyable as a hobby for me.
What have you learned since you arrived at ESOC?
One cannot answer this question in a few sentences! Working at ESOC provides you with insight into space exploration in all its aspects, which becomes deeper day-by-day. In addition, it allows you to work with outstanding scientists with in-depth experience in the space field, as well as to share your ideas with other young professionals and students from all over Europe.
What advice do you have for anyone interested in a space-related career?
ESOC allows you to work with outstanding scientists with in-depth experience in the space field.
First, I would say try to focus your studies on a space-related field that interests you the most. Then, I would strongly recommend that you apply for a position at ESA as soon as possible - for instance, through ESA's YGT programmes or as a student intern. If you are really motivated, ESA is the place to work, so keep trying!
Which person at ESOC has made the strongest impression on you?
It is impossible to point to a particular person who has made the biggest impression - because everyday, someone manages to do this. People here are so competent and experienced that sometimes you wonder how can someone know so much about a topic.
