This year, due to circumstances related to the Covid-19 pandemic, ESA and the Ecsite Space Group will be back to work together in a different format.

The Space Group, with more than 190 members and the support of ESA, aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas and projects to better share European achievements in space with the general public.

The Space Group is led by three co-chairs: Christophe Chaffardon, Director of Education, Science and Culture at Cité de l’espace, Toulouse, France; Ana Noronha, Executive Director of Ciência Viva, Lisbon, Portugal; and Maria Menendez, Head of ESA Outreach Coordination Office, Paris, France.

This year, due to circumstances related to the Covid-19 pandemic, ESA and the Ecsite Space Group will be back to work together in a different format.

During three digital sessions, participants will connect, interact and share their recent experiences and future projects, as follows:

On 27 November from 14:30–16:00

‘Virtual Coffee & chat’, a drop-in session, with an informal exchange of experiences and challenges that museums and science centres experienced during recent months, and also an opportunity to welcome, and virtually meet, new participants.

On 1 December from 14:30–16:30

‘Share, Inspire, Connect’ showcase, a session for all participants to present their space-related projects, learn and be inspired by others; after the presentation, the discussion will continue in the virtual break-out rooms in small groups.

On 2 December from 14:30–16:30

‘ESA: Latest achievements’, a session where participants will learn more about ESA’s recent and future activity, including the Space Care campaign, the Earth Observation programme, the recent launch of Sentinel-6 and an update from ESA Education office.
It will also be an opportunity to find out about ESA resources on the  topic of the environment and how they can be used to better meet the needs of science organisations.

During this last session the group will benefit from an exchange of information to continue to work on the pilot project ‘Climate change: Monitoring the atmosphere and oceans from Space’.
