ESA / About Us / Exhibitions / Ecsite Space Group

Ecsite, the European Network for science centres and museums, has more than 350 members committed to inspiring people with science and technology and enable dialogue between science and society.

Since 2012, Ecsite and ESA work together and combine their strengths, networks and capabilities in order to share European space programme and achievements in space with their members.

The Ecsite Space Group, that includes today more than 200 members meets twice a year: during the Ecsite Annual Conference in June and for the Space group Annual meeting at the end of the year.

Ecsite Annual conference 2019

“Pushing boundaries” is the theme of the 30th edition of the Ecsite annual conference 2019 in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 04-08 June. The conference, hosted by Experimentarium, brings together more than 1000 professionals specialised in science communication with the general public.

As during the previous conference, ESA and the Ecsite Space Group have organised a pre-conference “Space for All, Space for Earth” from 04-05 June, focusing on Earth observation and “Space for Earth”.

Representatives of science centres and museums will work together for two days on a programme that includes:

Day 1

  • Space news from ESA,
  • Presentation of ESA Moon and Exploration resources;
  • Resources for “Climate change: Monitoring the Atmosphere and Oceans from Space”;
  • Presentation of space projects by ESA Education office and Ecsite Space Group participants;
  • Ecsite Space group next steps: Annual meeting in ESA/Esrin

Day 2

The second day will take place at the Planetarium Copenhagen, where participants will have the opportunity to see behind the scenes of ‘Made in Space” exhibition: how all citizens are welcome in space.

Space group panel session

On the 6th June, the Space Group will hold a panel session “Bringing Space down to Earth: citizens and Space applications”. The session aims to instruct on the use of Space technologies and Earth Observation data for new purposes for everyday life on our planet.

ESA and Ecsite Space Group will be present at the Ecsite Business Bistro, a place where professionals and institutions can present and share new communication tools.

The Space Group

The Ecsite Space Group, founded with ESA’s help in 2012, now comprises more than 200 museums and science centres. It facilitates cooperation among science centres, museums, research institutions, universities, national space agencies and industries all over Europe. Together they design projects to better share the European space activity with the public thanks to the strong support provided by European science centres and museums.

The Space Group is led by Marc Moutin, Director of Exhibitions at Cité de l’Espace, Toulouse, France; Ana Noronha, Executive Director of Ciência Viva, Lisbon, Portugal; and Maria Menendez, Head of ESA Exhibitions and Strategic Events.
