The Ecsite Space Group Conference is back in Malta for the 2023 edition. Come and join us at the Esplora Science Centre on 14 June for the pre-conference workshop ‘Our Space, Our Planet'. Save the date now!

How can space science support sustainable development and address future challenges on Earth? In what way can space science centres and professionals help to increase awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and communicate solutions in a hopeful and positive way? These and other questions related to the hot topics of sustainability and climate change, will be in the spotlight of a pre-conference 'Our Space, Our Planet' workshop organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Ecsite Space Group.

The ECSITE-ESA Space Group Pre-conference workshop will take place on 14 June 2023 in Esplora Science Centre, followed by the ECSITE Conference organised from 15 to 17 June in the Mediterranean Conference Centre. Both events will be hosted by the Esplora Science Centre in Malta.

As with previous editions, this ESA-led workshop will be the place to share the latest space developments from ESA and its European partners. It also provides an opportunity for participants from space science centres and other professionals to gain new skills and exchange knowledge and experience. Delegates will be able to advance their understanding of space science and how to engage the public on sustainability and space science topics, as well as being able to develop collaborative projects and events.

The ‘Our Space, Our Planet’ workshop will be led by a speaker session with presentations from Maria Menéndez, Head of the ESA Outreach Coordination Office; Sandra Benitez Herrera, Education Scientist & ESAC Communication Officer; Markus Kissler Patig, Head of the Science and Operations Department; and Kai Noeske, Communication Programme Officer for Science.

Facilitators of the workshop will be Miriam Atienza, Content Manager, Ciutat de les Arts I les Ciències, Valencia, Spain; Ana Noronha, Executive Director of Ciência Viva, Lisbon, Portugal; Christophe Chaffardon, Head of Education, Science and Culture at Cité de l’espace, Toulouse, France; Tobias Wolff, Exhibition Manager, Universum Bremen, Bremen, Germany.

At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a session in the Planetarium led by the Esplora team and ESA representatives.
