ESA Business Incubation Centres Belgium
ESA BIC Belgium was formed in 2018 by merging ESA BIC Wallonie Redu and ESA BIC Flanders, both opened in 2012.
The centre provides business incubation support at four locations in Belgium to entrepreneurs and start-ups with ideas on how to re-use space technology and ESA intellectual property as well as the use of satellite date to develop novel terrestrial solutions. At ESA BIC Belgium they receive support, both on technical expertise and business aspects, to turn their ideas into successful start-ups.
ESA BIC Belgium is managed by Verhaert in partnership with IDELUX and WSL for the Redu site and with Innotek for the two sites in Flanders. Verhaert is also for ESA managing the Agency's Technology Transfer Network as Prime contractor.
ESA BIC Belgium`s Redu business incubation site is located in the futuristic Galaxia business park in Transinne, only 4 km away from ESA’s European space Security and Education Centre (ESEC) at Redu in Wallonia.
As a natural consequence of the variety of satellites operated by ESA from Redu, ESA BIC Belgium incubation centre in Redu is aimed at companies specialized in telecommunications, Earth observation, navigation systems as well as integrated applications, all where the use of satellite data is an integral part of the solution.
The business incubation centre stands as an avant-garde platform for start-ups with its directly link by a set of high-performance optical fibers to ESEC, the ESA centre in Redu. This unique link provides fresh data collected from satellites for immediate processing and analysis, an exclusive direct and quick access available to start-ups hosted at the Redu site.
Geel and Mol sites
ESA BIC Belgium`s two business incubation sites in the Flemish Region are located at Innotek's two technology houses, in Geel and in Mol, with offices and laboratory space for entrepreneurs and start-ups.
Innotek is the knowledge centre for innovation and technology in the Province of Antwerp. Collaborating with local partners, the scientific expertise of these institutions complement the start-ups’ technical development in the fields of electronics, nanotechnology, telecommunications, navigation systems, nuclear science, bio-engineering, radiology, life science, and Earth observation.
