Pakistani earthquake survivors walk along a road shattered by the 08 October earthquake near Kawal Village, some 20 kilometers from Balakot in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), 23 October 2005. New aftershocks rattled quake-hit northern Pakistan as aid trickled into the mountainous region and relief agencies struggled to reach cut-off survivors before winter. A UN relief official said 23 October that the international community failed to grasp the scale of the South Asian earthquake and more than two weeks after the disaster, the response is still not enough. More than 53,000 have been confirmed dead and more than 75,000 injured so far while 3.3 million people were left homeless by the 08 October disaster.
