The European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT) is ESA’s new facility in the United Kingdom. It is based at the Harwell Science, Innovation and Business Campus in Oxfordshire. A dedicated building will be available by the end of 2015.
The design of the new building will use most of the concepts (particularly on sustainability and the use of natural energy sources) that were the basis of the design of the Callisto building at ESOC. The Agency aims to achieve a certification of “very good” to “excellent” within the UK ‘Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method’ standards (BREEAM), a widely recognised environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.
