The project
Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary approach of transforming technical, cost and schedule requirements into a system solution. In the case of ESMO, this includes the coordination of large, geographically distributed teams. The university systems engineering team is supporting the SSTL systems engineer, with PhD students providing their support on a weekly basis. Undergraduate students are not directly involved in the day-to-day activities, but perform spin-off projects. The PhD students are involved in tasks such as maintaining the system budgets, preparing the ESMO trade tree, and preparing document templates to the ESMO teams for e.g. the failure mode, effects, and criticality analysis and the system design justification document.
