European Space Technology Transfer Forum
On 26-27 April the first European Space Technology Transfer Forum will take place in Belgium. The Forum will discuss the benefits of space exploration and technology transfer, and propose a plan of action to be put before the European Commission.
Organised by the Community of Ariane Cities (CVA) and the German State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the Forum will take place in the Representation of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg in Brussels. It aims to promote space programmes for the 7th Framework Programme of the EU and to lobby EU Ministers in charge of research, prior to the next conference of their Council, by presenting examples of technology transfer from space to everyday life, and stressing the importance, as well as the benefits, of European space exploration.
The CVA will raise the proposed plan of action to the European Commission. This association was formed in 1998 to promote economic, cultural and educational development and cooperation between the European cities that contribute, directly or indirectly, to the Ariane programme.
Mr Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona and President of the CVA, together with Dr Horst Mehrländer, Secretary of State of Economy in Baden-Wuerttemberg, will open the Forum. Leading members of the EU, ESA, the CVA, the space industry and the International Space University in Strasbourg will also address the meeting.
A workshop for CVA members will also be held together with an exhibition of technology transfer from space. The Council of Mayors of European Cities that are members of the CVA will take place after the event.
