Special Handheld based Applications in Difficult Environment - SHADE

SHADE improves access to continuous positioning informatio
SHADE improves availability of continuous positioning information

Satellite navigation has become an emerging and important positioning source for a wide range of applications, many of which go much beyond the traditional transport sector such as personal mobility including dense urban, indoor, and outdoor applications. The SHADE project specialises in these types of applications.

With the SHADE project, TeleConsult Austria and Utopika are addressing novel applications in the non-transport sector that improve availability of continuous positioning solutions in dense urban and indoor environments. SHADE provides safety and security enhancements for personal mobility applications.

Public demonstrations of the SHADE system were performed in Lisbon, Bolzano, and Rome from May through July 2004. A final public demonstration was performed on 29 September 2004 at ESA/ESTEC.

The SHADE project was completed successfully with a Final Review on October 1st, and a Final Presentation given at ESA/ESTEC on December 7th, 2004.
