An authoritative overview of the current state of European space technology is now available, in the pages of the 2017 edition of the European Space Technology Master Plan, published jointly for the first time by ESA and the European Commission.

Updated annually, the European Space Technology Master Plan (ESTMP) is a well-established publication covering space technology developments across the European continent and Canada.

Within its pages are an up-to-date presentation of the space technology activities and capabilities of more than 30 European countries and institutions, while also detailing worldwide institutional spending on space.

For the first time, this edition is published jointly by ESA and the European Commission, with a preface signed by both ESA Director General Jan Wörner and the EC’s Director-General of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Lowri Evans.

ESTMP 2017 came about as a joint effort between ESA and the EC, their respective Member and Cooperating States as well as related European institutional actors such as the European Defence Agency.

This edition now includes national reports covering Croatia and Malta, which are EU Member States, giving full representation of EU Member States.

It also includes a set of 50 harmonised European space technology roadmaps – Europe-wide R&D plans for key future technologies intended to maximise the benefit of space spending – while providing an overview of the various European technology plans and programmes that are implementing them. By long-standing tradition, this edition records the current status of agreed roadmaps and contains the eight latest.
