    Safety and Security

    Success stories

Coping with the hostile environment of space is a huge task, and astronauts and spacecraft both face many potential dangers from extremes of heat and cold, radiation, launch vibration and equipment failure. Many technologies and materials have been developed to guard against catastrophes and it is not surprising that safety and reliability measures are natural spin-offs of space exploration.

From more reliable brakes on aircraft and high performance cars to air bags and improved airport detection systems, technology transfers are helping to improve safety and security at home and in the work place.
