  OPS Forum - 2009

We've moved! Access the new OPS Forum site at: http://www.amiando.com/opsforum.

The 'OPS Forum' is a monthly seminar organised by the Ground Systems Engineering Dept., known as 'OPS-G', at ESA's European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), Darmstadt, Germany. Events are of interest to registered members of the space operations community, academia and the media.

Sources of space debris - explosions of rocket bodies
Recent in-orbit fragmentations and their impact

28 August 2009

An unprecedented series of in-orbit fragmentation events have occurred in the past two years. This presentation will introduce ESA's collision avoidance process, which monitors conjunctions between ESA satellites and other objects, and review recent events.

ESTRACK Monitoring and Control

3 July 2009

The monitoring and control of spacecraft is the most visible activity of ESOC. However, monitoring and control (M&C) of the ESTRACK ground stations also plays an important role in this process, with a strong focus on remote and automated operations.

Introduction to the ESTRACK Management System

19 June 2009

The EMS translates service requests from multiple missions into a schedule for ground stations and monitors both execution of the schedule and general health of ground stations.

Galileo orbits
Design, development and verification of Galileo Ground Mission Segment

29 May 2009

An overview of Galileo and its phases (IOV, FOC) and the general design of the ground segments. The presentation also focuses on the Galileo Ground Mission Segment (GMS), which is responsible for the generation of the navigation and integrity messages.

Artist's impression of Swarm
Swarm simulator development

8 May 2009

An explanation and illustration of what SMP-2, REFA and EGOS-MF are - and how these can be used to facilitate and streamline the production of spacecraft simulators.

Libration point orbits

3 April 2009

ESA's Herschel and Planck missions will fly on orbits around the libration point L2 in the Sun-Earth system. Future astronomy missions such as GAIA and JWST will also use this type of orbit. This forum will provide a comprehensive introduction to the basic mechanics of libration point orbits.

X-Band Acquisition Aid - An advanced tool for future LEOP support

20 March 2009

The presentation will provide an overview of the X-Band Acquisition Aid (XAA) facilities that are being deployed in PER, KRU and MSP ground stations to support H/P, LPF and future X-Band spacecraft LEOPs.

New Ground Segment Reference Facility

04 February 2009

Testing and validation of the ground segment and ground segment components are prerequisites for operations success. To improve the current approach, OPS-G is working on an innovative concept that will allow developers to validate and demonstrate their system in a pre-operational environment.
