 | Born on 15 October 1964 in Viterbo, Italy. Married to the former Valeria Nardi of Citta' di Castello, Italy. They have two children. Enjoys soccer, running, swimming and reading.
In 1997, he attended the US Air Force Flight Safety School and from 1997 to 1998, he was wing Flight Safety Officer at the Italian Test Centre. He was also a teacher of aerodynamics for the Italian Air Force's Accident Investigation Course.
Roberto Vittori is a major in the Italian Air Force. He has logged nearly 2000 hours in over 40 different aircraft including F-104, Tornado GR1, F-18, AMX, M-2000, G-222 and P-180. In July 1998 he was selected as an astronaut by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), in cooperation with ESA, and one month later he joined the European Astronaut Corps, whose homebase is ESA's European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.
In August 1998 he was relocated to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas and entered the 1998 Astronaut class for participation in a training programme to qualify astronauts for future assignments on the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station.

 | Samantha Cristoforetti is one of six individuals who will become Europe's new astronauts. The new astronauts were presented at a press conference held at ESA Headquarters in Paris, France, on 20 May 2009. The new recruits will join the European Astronaut Corps and start their training to prepare for future missions to the International Space Station, and beyond.
Samantha Cristoforetti was born in Milan, Italy, in 1977. She studied at the Technische Universität Munich, Germany, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace in Toulouse, France, and the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technologies in Moscow, Russia. She holds a master’s degree in engineering, as well as a master’s degree in aeronautical sciences from the University of Naples Federico II in Italy. Lt. Cristoforetti is a fighter pilot with the Italian Air Force. In her leisure time, she enjoys mountaineering, scuba diving and caving.

Luca Parmitano was born in Paterno, Italy, in 1976. He holds a diploma in aeronautical sciences from the Italian Air Force Academy and was trained as a Full Experimental Test Pilot at EPNER, the French test pilot school in Istres. Capt. Parmitano, a pilot with the Italian Air Force, is an active scuba diver and enjoys climbing and paragliding.

| | | | Umberto Guidoni
 | Born August 18, 1954, in Rome, Italy. He is married and has one child. Enjoys swimming, volleyball, and classical music. In August 1998, Umberto Guidoni joined ESA's European Astronaut Corps, the homebase of which is the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) located in Cologne, Germany.
Umberto Guidoni was the first ESA astronaut to visit the International Space Station.
