Video shows GMES in action

4 March 2005
The Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) initiative undertaken jointly by ESA and the European Commission aims at combining space- and ground-based measuring systems to build an independent global monitoring capacity for Europe.

First premiered at February's Gala Dinner of the Third Earth Observation Summit in Brussels, this video explains the full scope of GMES, how it will benefit European and world citizens, and highlights some of the users it is already serving across the globe. GMES is the European component of the Global Earth Observation Systems of Systems (GEOSS) whose creation was formally agreed at the Summit.
