A view of the International Space Station (ISS) following the STS-116 Space Shuttle mission during which the P5 truss section was added, the Station's electrical supply was rewired and the P6 solar array was retracted. This image was taken shortly after Space Shuttle Discovery undocked at 23:10 CET (22:10 UT) on 19 December 2006.

Fuglesang and Curbeam fix jammed solar array

ESA astronaut Christer Fuglesang (all white suit) and NASA's Robert Curbeam (suit with red stripes) work to fix the Station's jammed solar array. The P6 solar array failed to retract fully following remote control commands earlier in the mission. An extra spacewalk was added to the mission timeline in order to aid full retraction of the solar array - a major goal of the STS-116 mission.

Reflected scene during fourth spacewalk of STS-116

A reflection in ESA astronaut Christer Fuglesang's helmet during the fourth spacewalk of the STS-116 Space Shuttle mission. On 18 December 2006, Fuglesang and Curbeam performed an extra spacewalk to free the jammed P6 solar array which had failed to fully retract earlier in the mission.

ATV in LSS at ESTEC

Jules Verne, the first Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), the most complex spacecraft ever developed in Europe, has successfully completed this week its most exhaustive test campaign at ESA's test facilities at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Jules Verne is due to make its inaugural flight atop an Ariane-5 in 2008 to re-supply the International Space Station.
