More autonomy for blind people thanks to satellite navigation


Tormes will help the blind find their way
 
ONCE (Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles), the National Organization of Spanish Blind people has developed a system based on GPS to guide blind people. The system called “Tormes” is a computer with a Braille keyboard and satellite navigation technology that gives verbal directions.


 
An ESA project is using Egnos and Sisnet navigation technologies in a personal navigator for blind people developed by GMV Sistemas, Spain and ONCE, a Spanish organisation for the blind.
