Space technology put into service for global water resources observations



 



 
The Amazon River Basin as observed by ERS-1 Radar Altimeter, including so-called 'wet'radar echoes from rivers, lakes and swamps. Radar altimetry data provides researchers with the means to monitor global river and lake levels.


 
The second “Space for Hydrology” workshop, organised by ESA in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), was held in Geneva, from 12-14 November 2007. The workshop aimed to assess the current stage of knowledge and activities in space-based hydrological observations.
