ALOS satellite snaps Europe ![]() This image of the Gulf of Naples in Italy was acquired on 28 April 2006 by the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type-2 (AVNIR-2) onboard ALOS satellite. This close range view highlights the wake of the ships in the gulf and the shadows of the clouds. ![]() This ALOS image shows part of the Hardangerfjord, west of the city of Bergen, the second biggest Fjord (inlet) of Norway. On the right side of the image is the Hardangervidda National Park. The image was acquired on 1 May 2006 by ALOS' Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) instrument. ![]() ALOS captured the district of North Netherlands, with the city of Den Helder seen at the northernmost point, on 1 May 2006, using its Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) instrument that can acquire observations during both day and night and through any weather conditions. ![]() Artist's impression of the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), launched 24 January 2006.
