Hobbies: rugby, basketball, squash, canoeing, kayaking and mountaineering. He also builds and flies remote-controlled aeroplanes
Andreas graduated from Copenhagen International School in Denmark in 1995. He then studied aeronautical engineering and in 2007 received a doctorate in aerospace engineering.
Andreas worked as a drilling services engineer on an offshore oil rig in the Republic of Congo and the Republic of Angola between 2000 and 2001.
From 2008 until his astronaut selection in 2009, Andreas worked as a research fellow at the Surrey Space Centre in the United Kingdom. His research focused on spacecraft guidance, navigation and control during entry, descent and landing.
Andreas was selected as an ESA astronaut in May 2009.
