SmallGEO

The SmallGEO system is a small geostationary telecommunications satellite being developed under ESA’s ARTES 11 programme.

SmallGEO is a satellite that, in partnership with Hispasat will fly the Luxor Platform developed by OHB and its partners. This satellite will incorporate advanced payload technology – a DVB S2 processor and active antennas.

A consortium led by the German company OHB-System AG has been working on the development of the Small Geostationary Platform since March 2007. The core team of companies that jointly develops and later on commercialises the platform includes, besides OHB-System AG and its Luxembourg subsidiary LuxSpace, Swedish Space Corporation, Carlo Gavazzi Space (Italy) and Oerlikon (Switzerland).

The selection of Hispasat for the Small GEO mission was made through an open call for interest issued by ESA in June 2007.

Launch is expected in 2012.
