'ESA's Lorry to the International Space Station'
ESA TV Exchanges
The Automated Transfer Vehicle ATV is a key European contribution to the International Space Station. Its main function is to carry up to six tons of cargo to the ISS--everything the astronauts need for living and working in space, plus propellant for the ISS.
On 28 June, ESA will roll out the the first ATV, baptised Jules Verne, to media gathering at ESTEC in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.
Its launch is scheduled to take place as of January 2008 by Ariane 5.
Today's Exchange provides pre-event footage, including new 3-D animations and soundbites by the ATV Project Manager, John Ellwood.
