The wingspan of the plane Solar Impulse will be about 80 metres, in order to minimise the induced drag (aerodynamic losses) and maximise the surface available for the solar cells. This dimension implies greater weight and susceptibility to turbulence. Therefore, an ultra-light structure and wings must be manufactured using special materials to meet the drastic weight demands. Ultra thin and flexible solar cells will be integrated in the plane's wings and will be built to withstand the deformations and vibrations they will encounter.
