The Origins of the Solar System
Our Solar System was born some 5 billion years ago. Earth became the cradle of life. A mass of inhospitable gases was transformed via a chain of events that still remain an enigma today.
In order to reveal the conditions that allowed life to form and spread, Europe has launched a number of ambitious space missions that are making significant discoveries.
Over the coming years, ESA, the European Space Agency, will continue to investigate some of the most intriguing enigmas in the cosmos.
New spacecraft will study how our neighbouring planets formed, life emerged and how the Solar System works, and will test the fundamental physical laws of the Universe and study what it is made of.
