A UHF and L-band combination patch-array antenna being tested inside ESA’s Hertz chamber in September 2015. This prototype antenna is positioned on a mockup of part of a Meteosat Third Generation Imaging satellite, set for operation from 2020 onwards. The aim was to check the performance of the antenna as it will be operating in space – attached to this detailed mockup of the MTG-I satellite body – to check for any interference. All the involved satellite surfaces were reproduced, even the cover that protects the main MTG camera during launch and the thrusters that maintain the satellite’s position in space.
