The ESA-patented technology to take pictures in the terahertz frequency range, developed originally by ESA for space applications, is now used for security screening of passengers in airports, spotting even objects well hidden under clothing. As shown here, the ThruVision system was also used for routine checks at the Association of Southeast Asia Nations summit in 2014, with 18 heads of states including President Obama, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
