A TDE funded activity, together with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, investigated alternative possibilities to antimicrobial surface treatments. New surface treatments avoided incorporating conventional materials containing heavy metals, which have been shown to leak into water condensate on the ISS, and are instead being based on bio-sourced ingredients.
