ISTSat-1 team member Letícia Araújo at work.
Letícia is in charge of structural aspects for the ISTSat-1 satellite. 3D design, Finite Element Analysis, Buckling Analysis, Modal Analysis, and Thermal Analysis, are all part of her work.
These types of analyses are critical given the harsh conditions with which the ISTSat-1 will be confronted. First, the satellite will be exposed to extremely intense vibrations and shocks during launch, so it must be designed accordingly. Furthermore, when in orbit, it will be subjected to low pressure and temperature variations in the surrounding environment, which are very different from those encountered on Earth.
To ensure that the CubeSat is ready to launch, it must be tested to see if it can withstand the forecasted conditions. To do so, it must go through an environmental test campaign, which Leticia is preparing in partnership with ESA's Fly Your Satellite! programme.
