ESA has partnered with global corporation Nokia to show how satellite connectivity could enable an advanced multimedia streaming technology to create new opportunities across society and industry.
Connected over 5G networks, Nokia’s technology – named Real-time eXtended Reality Multimedia (RXRM) – uses 360-degree video and spatial 3D audio systems to allow people to experience events and situations remotely and in real-time.
As part of a development contract supported by the UK Space Agency, RXRM was installed earlier this year at ESA’s 5G/6G Hub, which is located at ESA’s European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications in the UK.
