Forest-3 was developed under ESA’s InCubed programme and was launched on 14 January 2025. The Forest-1 and Forest-2 CubeSats were launched in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Forest-3 carries a next-generation sensor, equipped with enhanced thermal imaging and hardware.
Prime Contractor OroraTech aims to address the global wildfire crisis by closing gaps in thermal-infrared satellite data through the deployment of miniaturised thermal-infrared imagers in low Earth orbit. These imagers enhance current satellite data sources, providing faster and more reliable wildfire detection and monitoring, crucial for reducing wildfire-induced carbon dioxide emissions and mitigating extreme wildfire events, which account for most wildfire damage.
