Genesis will contribute to a highly improved International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) of Earth with an accuracy of 1 mm and a long-term stability of 0.1 mm/year, providing a coordinate system for the most rigorous navigation applications on our planet.
The design of the Genesis satellite has evolved to ensure optimal performance. In the design pictured here, the solar panels were on the sides of the satellite instead of in a roof configuration, to optimise power generation. Further refinements, including the solar array design and antenna placement have changed throughout platform configuration analyses. The preliminary design was confirmed at the Preliminary Design Review, and the final design will be frozen during the Critical Design Review.
