Lanzarote, Spain

Day 073, orbit 1133 – Beautiful Lanzarote! This island was shaped by volcanic eruptions – and it shows even from space, with its numerous craters and the dark lava fields of the national park.

Lanzarote is often used by scientists as an analogue for the Moon or Mars, including by ESA teams during the PANGAEA training programme. A special thought for my scientific and astronaut friends who have trained there – Sergey, our current ISS commander, among them! Activities on the ground include testing technological tools for field sampling and scientific analysis, as well as the Artemis lunar camera!

Jour 073, orbite 1133 – Magnifique Lanzarote ! Cette île a été façonnée par des éruptions volcaniques, et cela se voit même depuis l’espace, à travers ses nombreux cratères et les vastes champs de lave du parc national.

Lanzarote est souvent utilisée par les scientifiques comme analogue de la Lune ou de Mars, notamment par les équipes de l’ESA dans le cadre du programme d’entraînement PANGAEA. Clin d’œil à mes amis scientifiques et astronautes qui s’y sont entraînés, parmi eux il y a même Sergueï, l’actuel commandant de la Station ! Ils y ont testé des outils de prélèvement et d’analyse scientifique sur le terrain, et même la caméra lunaire du programme Artemis.
