Celeste's VOLTA air-breathing electric thruster firing with atmospheric propellant in the vacuum facility at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, as part of the 'MISTRAL: Miniaturised Innovative Space Thruster for Operation with Rarefied Air in Low Orbit' activity supported by ESA Discovery. The system demonstrated, for the first time experimentally, that positive net thrust can be generated by harvesting residual atmosphere in Very Low Earth Orbit.
