Europe’s forests losing biomass due to disturbances

This image shows the absolute severity of above-ground biomass (AGB) density loss from European forests, caused by natural disturbances and harvest.

Absolute severity measures the loss of above-ground biomass after a disturbance, such as wind, fire or insect damage, or after tree harvesting. It is measured in megagrams (Mg) per hectare disturbance, where one Mg is 1000 Kg.

Point sizes are scaled by forest area proportion within 20 × 20 km² grid cells.
