Bird’s-eye view: icy sand dunes near Thyles Rupes
This view was generated from the digital terrain model and the nadir and colour channels of the High Resolution Stereo Camera on ESA’s Mars Express. It shows a bird’s-eye view of Thyles Rupes, one of the most prominent cliff-faces in Mars’s ancient southern highlands. Impact craters and deposits of ice can be seen across the frame – including a couple of large, rippled, ice-covered sand dunes.
