One of the flywheels used inside the compact Control Moment Gyroscopes is shown here undergoing balance testing at Veoware, Belgium. During in-orbit testing, Veoware’s mini CMGs enabled manoeuvres that were completed approximately 2.5 times faster than reaction wheels. An improvement that will help Earth observation satellites acquire more targets during each pass over the Earth.
