FutureEO in focus

FutureEO is ESA’s Earth observation research and development programme and Europe’s bridge to a sustained leadership and innovation in Earth observation.

Building on more than 25 years of groundbreaking science and data, the programme continues to harness novel concepts to develop pioneering satellite missions and technology. Cutting-edge missions, such as the recently launched Biomass, and the actionable data they are designed to produce, directly inform decisions on critical societal, climate and environmental challenges. 

Earth science is at the core of this forward-looking programme, but FutureEO, critically, also underpins the development of operational satellite missions dedicated to delivering robust systematic data for services that improve daily life and boost the economy.

The agility of FutureEO offers room for manoeuvre to adapt to emerging challenges and opportunities, while meeting the needs of an evolving ecosystem, notably with the introduction of its Earth Action pillar.
