Observe

This project consists of several exercises.

If you are a member of the project you can upload your observations to the Meteosat image.

Everyone is invited to carry out the following exercises using the project resources.

Measure and observe the following weather elements.

Click below if you want background information on how to observe the weather elements:

Wind
Cloudiness
Temperature

Upload data

When you have made your observations you are ready to upload:

Interpretation of the Meteosat image

The cloud pattern of Europe can be seen very well on the Meteosat IR image.

Describe the cloud pattern on the Meteosat image.

How does the cloud pattern on the Meteosat image compare with the cloud pattern where you live and with the reported observations on the Meteosat image?

Find weather boundaries

Each day after the schools have uploaded their local observations, a Meteosat image is produced with the local weather observations superimposed.

Print the image and try to draw lines dividing Europe into areas with the same cloud pattern.

Temperature

Very often you can draw a line which divides Europe into a cold part and a warmer part. This line does not always run from west to east!

Look at the temperatures on the map and draw temperature isolines (lines through points with the same temperature).

Are there other weather elements which have a distribution with a similar pattern?

How is the temperature boundary reflected in the cloud pattern as seen in the Meteosat IR image? Refer to the cloud pattern classification above.
