      With the tragic loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia and its crew on the 01 February 2003, the future of manned spaceflight looked a little uncertain. The question on everyone's lips was ""what happens now?"" and NASA's understandable first decision was to ground the Shuttle fleet while investigations took place.

      During this time humans were already in space on board the International Space Station. At any one time the Space Station has a permanent crew of 3, which are changed over every 4 months. As events unfolded, the Expedition 6 crew comprising of Commander Ken Bowersox, Flight Engineer Nikolai Budarin and NASA Space Station Science Officer Don Pettit, waited to hear what the future would bring.
