In late December 2005, a Soyuz will roll out to its launch pad, ready to put Giove, the first satellite of the Galileo Programme, into space. Giove is a major step towards Europeís new satellite navigation system which will, when completed, truly revolutionise almost everybodyís daily life. (Galileo constallation graphics ñ cut back to a cut-away shot of Giove with Javier working on it ñ standing nearby ) The main objective of Giove is to ensure that all 30 satellites of the Galileo system can function with the necessary accuracy and reliability.
