- Description
Generally, a spacecraft lands within a few kilometres of its intended landing site, but in the rare case that it does not, astronauts must be able to survive until rescue crews arrive. From winter survival to water survival, astronauts are prepared for anything, including building fires and shelters, surviving cold waters and righting capsized life rafts.
In this clip, ESA astronauts Samantha Cristoforetti and Matthias Maurer carry out winter survival training, Matthias also participates in sea survival training in Germany and China as well as fire emergency training.
