This photo captures a moment during the delicate activities to transfer Plato from the Large Space Simulator (LSS), Europe’s largest cryo-vacuum chamber, to a cleanroom.
Engineers used a special crane to lift Plato out of the LSS chamber and transfer it over the open ceiling of a cleanroom at ESA’s Test Centre. The spacecraft was then gently lowered into the room and mounted on a supporting frame.
In the following days, engineers will perform further measurements and checks of the spacecraft.
[Image description: Photo of a spacecraft suspended above a brightly lit white-walled room. Lifting straps are attached to the spacecraft and connected to an overhead crane. In the foreground, an engineer stands on a bridge at the same height as the spacecraft. He is leaning against a safety fence and looks down into the white room.]
