Sustainable fashion label Tammam has teamed up with ESA to mix couture and a climate-conscious message.

Tammam is a couture fashion label creating environmentally sustainable and ethically produced clothing and accessories. Run by British designer Lucy Tammam, it opened in London in 2007 to provide a stylish and genuinely ethical alternative to conventional designer fashion. The label’s latest collection is a range of elegant scarves with eye-catching designs based on ESA imagery.

The silk scarves in the ESA x TAMMAM collection are made from cruelty-free ‘peace silk’ where the moths are allowed fly away before their cocoons are processed.

ESA is renowned for stunning space images captured by satellites and space telescopes. These pictures provide vital data for both astronomers and climate scientists – as well as being very beautiful. When fashion designer Lucy Tammam was shown ESA satellite images of Earth, they gave her a flash of inspiration: “As soon as I saw them, I thought they needed to be on textiles!” This was the spark for the ESA X TAMMAM collection.

As a designer, Lucy Tammam strives to bring together her passion for fashion and activism. The new ESA x TAMMAM range is a great example of how 'couture and activism can go hand-in-hand'. She hopes that customers will feel fabulous wearing her stylish scarves, but also that their designs will encourage conversations on climate issues.

ESA’s Branding and Partnerships Office supports businesses worldwide through partnerships and licensing programmes. The agency is careful to team up with organisations that share its values and, in this case, the environmentally conscious principles that guide Tammam proved a perfect fit.

ESA’s satellite images of Earth as seen from space are beautiful, but also a reminder of the fragile beauty of our planet and of our common responsibility to protect it. As Emmet Fletcher, Head of ESA’s Branding and Partnerships Office commented: “ESA’s Member States have asked us to make the protection of our planet a priority. Through partnerships with companies such as Tammam, we can highlight this work and raise awareness to the wider community about climate issues.”

The new space scarves are available to pre-order and are produced in very limited quantities to keep waste to a minimum. The scarves themselves are made from cruelty-free materials and printed using organic-certified dyes. They are also fully compostable.

You can find out more about ESA’s licensing programme by visiting the ESA Brand Centre. Scarves from the ESA X TAMMAM collection are available to pre-order from the fashion label’s website for delivery in mid-December.
