Drop-test model of Huygens probe in 3D

16 December 2004
A life-size drop-test model of Huygens was recently on display at ESA's mission control centre, the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), Darmstadt, Germany, and seen here in 3D!

This model was flown in 1995 over the ESA test range at Kiruna, Sweden, to verify the parachute deployment sequence. The probe was taken aloft by high-altitude balloon, and released from a height of 37.5 kilometres. Stereoscopic glasses are needed to view the 3D images.
