Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is a complex process takes place in plant leaves where atmospheric carbon dioxide is fixed and converted into energy-rich carbohydrates (top). The conversion of solar energy into biochemically usable energy carriers (ATP and NADPH) occurs within the ‘light reaction’ of photosynthesis – a complex and cascade of light absorption electron transfer biosynthesis.

Using cutting-edge technology, ESA’s FLEX mission is designed to reveal new insights into how plants function by measuring the faint fluorescence they emit during photosynthesis.
