Both Nord Stream gas pipelines suffered ruptures in September 2022. There were four areas of damage that occurred east of the Danish island of Bornholm, affecting both Nord Stream pipelines 1 and 2, which pass under the Baltic Sea. A study published in Nature estimates the methane emitted was more than double the volume estimated at the time.
