Differences in tectonic plate thickness

The animation depicts the differences in the thickness of the tectonic plate beneath the UK and Ireland. The uneven distribution of British and Irish earthquakes shows no relationship to tectonic boundaries or major faults but depends on the thickness of the lithosphere.
