The benefits of the MetOp Second Generation mission

The MetOp-SG mission offers substantially improved data compared to its first-generation predecessors. It is designed to fly in polar orbit and provide data every day about weather all over the world. The mission consists of six satellites in total, operating two at a time, which carry complementary state-of-the art instruments. 

MetOp-SG provides high-resolution measurements of temperature, humidity, precipitation, clouds and winds, atmospheric composition, aerosols, delivering data for weather forecasting and climate prediction for the next 20 years.
